Graduate Course "Systematic planning tools for the conservation of biodiversity in the European seas". Gothenburg University, Department of Marine Ecology at Tjärnö, Strömstad (Sweden). September 21-26, 2009.
The course will cover concepts of systematic conservation planning relating to the marine environments of Europe, while placing special emphasis on how to make the best use of systematic planning tools (such us Marxan and Marzone), given the particular circumstances that conservation practitioners and biodiversity academics are faced with in their own areas of study. The course will equip participants with the necessary knowledge to use systematic planning tools for the purpose of increasing the efficacy of marine conservation areas in achieving their goals, whether they be related with conservation of species, improved livelihoods, or scientific research.
Applications are welcome until August 21
Successful applicants will have free course attendance, local transport,
accommodation and catering. They will only have to
cover their travel expenses.

The MGE offers a system of interrelated courses to be performed by the partners and used by PhD students, postdocs and senior researchers from both inside and outside the network. The training programme is managed by the Training and Education Council (see below), overseen by the Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) and the Council of Governors. Both short training courses and longer summer courses are planned throughout the project period.
A number of short (5 d), often technical courses are provided by the Network in order to meet the primary training needs identified by the Network partners but also to integrate Network members. The courses are open also for non-MGE members. Find below the next course(s) to be provided.
