Spreading

The third main block of "Marine Genomics" J.P.A. was designed to ensure an efficient spreading of the NoE competencies and results. Spreading activities will include joint training courses in genomics since these will seek trainees both inside and outside of the initial consortium, notably to target young or established researchers that would be willing to join the network. A number of educational courses (teaching) as well as topic-driven workshops, to refine further the joint research priorities, will also be organized throughout Europe. Again, these actions will be opened to emerging and senior researchers who are not formal members of "Marine Genomics Europe". In particular, we will invite to our workshops scientists from outside Europe, so that we can tune our scientific priorities to important external developments, notably in the USA and Japan.

Communication with fellow colleagues will of course involve result dissemination through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at international symposia under the Network umbrella, thus progressively contributing in identity building.

However, since Marine Genomics also wants to enhance awareness about sustainable husbandry of marine living resources and to create new gateways for the exploitation of marine assets, we will develop complementary dissemination strategies, targeting public, private and institutional communities. In practice, this aspect will require the establishment of a Knowledge and Communication System (The REX Tool) i. e., a permanent web-based interface for communications within the network and its environment (for the flow of information into the NoE as well as dissemination.

The different activities proposed :

  1. The Training and Education Council is in charge of the definition and implementation of training and teaching activities, inside and outside of the network (Coord.M. Thorndyke, Kristineberg Marine Station, Se).

In 2004, 8 PhD thesis have been funded plus 2 in 2005
. Name of fellows available here.

  2. The Gender Action Plan covers Marine Genomics Fellowships for women, Work/Life Balance Travel Grants, travel and crèche assistance, mentoring and Gender Education for Men and Women Scientists. (Coord.J. Olsen, RUG, Nl)

New call for fellowships: dedaline January 5th, 2007

Brochures : we edited different brochures: for scientists, Companies… Ask for one samples at Michèle Barbier, CNRS (Fr).
Posters : we edit different posters , please contact Michèle Barbier

An experimental project is currently on going between the CNRS (Station Biologique, Roscoff, Fr) and a local high school (Collège Jacques Prévert, Saint Pol de Léon, Fr)
